O-Level Pure Chemistry tuition
Small group classes for Sec 3 and Sec 4 students taking Pure Chemistry, and for private candidates. Learn in person in Eunos or online. Every class is capped at 8 students.
What the exam tests
Pure Chemistry is tested in 3 papers. Paper 1 is 40 multiple choice questions, worth 30%. Paper 2 is structured and free response questions out of 80 marks, worth 50%. Paper 3 is the practical, out of 40 marks, worth 20%.
The O-Level is now the SEC (Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate), syllabus code K324, first sat in 2027.

Hardest topics. From teaching, these are the 3 my students struggle with most:
- Electrochemistry. The difference between an electrolytic cell and a simple cell is very important and very easy to mix up.
- Reactivity series. It requires a lot of memorising. The best way to learn this chapter is to break it into the subtopics and learn each one, one by one, then tie them all together with the core principles of the chapter.
- Polymers. You have to work out the polymer from the monomer and the other way round, for both addition and condensation polymers.
How my lessons work
1) Everyone gets asked. I ask every student the same number of questions. Each question targets that student's weak spots, so nobody gets to sit back.
2) Understand first. I use analogies and real world examples, so the idea makes sense and is easy to remember.
3) Then drill. Once a student understands, we practise similar questions again and again. This is how they pick up the free marks in exams.
4) Homework that gets done. I set homework after every class and make sure it is completed.
